oh yes hi .....finally shelled out a few dollars to ancestry .com.......pfffffffft...(hate paying money for some thing im intitiled ...my history...uhg)
estelle and ira shumaker were married in whitley indiana ...just a few miles from where the reunion will be held.
they eventually had many children , one of which is my grandfather and i have all info on his siblings ....
ira and estelle moved the family to memphis tennessee...
her father
david f.goodrich married josephine latimer....whitley indiana
fought in the civil war and is buried near me in the memphis national cemetery....im going there soon for pics...
he lived with estelle and ira in his later years and in a letter back to indiana annoucing his death ,said he requested to be buried in
national cemetery....whew what a find there ...
and just as exciting was to find his parents
ralph goodrich ...married lucinda bennett
they also lived near and around whitley.indiana
RALPH born in 1820 was a farmer with many acres of farm land purchased ...(found those records)
he too fought in the civil war...joining the 44th regiment in indiana and mustered nov1861
to march to tennessee to fight the confederates and preserve the railroad .....(in a nutshell)
(this surprised me as he was 40ish years old ...)
the war was fought there for 2 days when the confederates retreated...hurrah!!!lol
any way ..ralph died on april 8th 1862
at pittsburgh landing at SHILOH ..in hardin tennesseee...
obviously having battled long and hard and recieving medals and accolades(after his death)...he succumbed to his wounds..
there are many accounts of this battle from first hand accounts on the internet.
i fortunately dont live far from the battle field and national cemetery there too ...so i will be going also to this cemetery to see if i can find his grave and take pics........
and i will hopefully contact the person handling the reunion to find out if i have living (distant) relatives....how funnnnnnn
wish i could go........ i would love to see the area where my roots so heartily grew....
i suspect to find ira and estelle in one of the cemetaries around memphis tn...i hope
soooo thanks for caring..im soo excited to have found this and am now infatuated with my family tree in general....
i suspect i have many distant cousin at the reunion as the family lived there so long ......hope i can find them some day
